Home Remedy For Insomnia
Thursday, September 4th, 2008When you’re unable to sleep, your mind and body can begin to malfunction. At its most benign, it simply leads to mental fatigue and irritability. However, prolonged insomnia can begin to take a physical toll. Conventional treatment usually includes a combination of behavorial therapy and medications. Fortunately, insomnia can often be resolved by using a number of home remedies.
First, mix two tablespoons of honey in a glass of warm water and drink it before going to bed. If that doesn’t allow you to go to sleep, review your diet and exercise routine. Eating raw vegetables and fruit has been known to be effective for curing chronic insomnia. For example, lettuce has a compound called lactucarium which is known for its sedative quality. Also, lightly exercising the muscles in your neck and throughout your back can help your body relax.
If you’re still unable to fall asleep, there may be substances in your diet that you’ve overlooked. While tea, coffee and chocolate are commonly known to inhibit restful sleep, consuming fried and fatty foods can also cause bouts of insomnia. Alcohol, despite its seemingly sedative effect, can also prevent you from sleeping well.
Many people have benefited from soaking a bath cloth in warm water and placing on the back of their neck before going to bed. It has a soothing quality that relaxes the neck muscles and removes tension.
Insomnia can be caused by a variety of different stimuli. Try the remedies above first to resolve the issue and get a good night’s sleep.
